ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has declared a major effort to switch to solar power for its buildings, street lighting, tube wells, and water pumps to lower expensive electricity bills.

This choice is a component of the CDA’s larger initiative to support cost-effectiveness and sustainability. The solarization project’s feasibility study has received approval from the CDA Board. This action is expected to save the agency Rs. 250 million per month, according to CDA sources.

The project will be carried out in three stages: street lighting will come first, then CDA buildings will be converted, and tube wells and water pumps will be powered by solar energy.

To produce 4.5 megawatts of power, the initiative intends to put solar panels on tube wells and waterworks throughout the capital.

It is anticipated that this solar system will operate the tube wells and waterworks for the next 25 years, paying for the Rs. 80 million installation cost in the first four years.

The CDA Board was given a synopsis of the solarization project by member engineer Khalid Hafeez.

Following careful consideration of all the views, the board stressed that a full feasibility study was needed.

To guarantee the best results, this research will review site characteristics, intricate system design, technical and financial evaluations, regulatory compliance, integration with current infrastructure, and protocols for monitoring and maintenance.

In compliance with the 2004 regulations set forth by the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA), the board has chosen to carry out this feasibility study.

The study will complete the installation plans for solar photovoltaic (PV) electricity, guaranteeing that all legal and technical requirements are satisfied for a smooth switch to solar energy.
