Pakistan govt initiates crackdown against fake tinted glass permits

ISLAMABAD (Zubair Kasuri)- In a move to curb the use of illegal tinted glass on vehicles, the Ministry of Interior has instructed provincial authorities to take decisive action against those issuing and using fake permits. The directive, issued on special instructions from Interior Secretary Khurram Agah, underscores the government’s commitment to upholding public safety and reducing illegal activities.

The Ministry expressed concern over the increasing number of fake tinted glass permits in circulation. In a letter addressed to Home Secretaries and Inspector General of Police across Pakistan, the Deputy Secretary Security emphasized the need to strictly enforce existing regulations. This recent directive follows an earlier letter issued on April 8, 2024, which initially highlighted the growing issue.

Pakistan maintains stringent regulations concerning car windows, permitting only a limited amount of tinting for specific purposes like security or medical reasons. Unauthorized tinting can obstruct visibility and impede law enforcement efforts, potentially aiding criminal activities.

The Ministry has directed provincial authorities, including the Federal Investigation Agency, to take the following actions:

• Verify the validity of all tinted glass permits.
• Initiate legal action against those found to be issuing or using fake permits.
• Ensure strict compliance with existing regulations pertaining to window tinting.

This crackdown signals a renewed commitment from the government to ensure public safety and combat any potential misuse of tinted glass on vehicles. Authorities are expected to intensify their efforts to curb this illegal practice, promoting a safer and more transparent environment for all citizens.
