KARACHI: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has demanded fresh general elections in the country.

While talking to the media in Karachi along with Sindh Governor Kamran Tesori, he said that both the 2018 and 2024 elections were not transparent.

He said that talks can be held with the government regarding the common curriculum, but abolishing madrassas is not acceptable, because this is the agenda of the West.

He said that respecting each other is part of our traditions, political differences have their place, but we are all brothers and sisters.

He said that we are all on the same page against terrorism, there has never been a Pakistan-friendly government in Afghanistan until Ashraf Ghani, and we should also consider our policies.

The JUI chief said that we should move towards the supremacy of the constitution by strengthening political institutions, where parliament is supreme, and the right of the people to vote is recognized.

He said that Pakistan’s position in terms of defense is strong and it should be maintained.

He said that Pakistan should not be part of any force that is used against the Palestinians.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that the changes made in the 27th Amendment are not in accordance with the constitution, law, and Islamic principles.

These changes were made at the behest of the United Nations, which is a failure of the government.

He said that a policy should be made to send back Afghan refugees and not push them away.
