KARACHI: Illegal cattle markets established across the city before Eid-ul-Adha have become a headache for the administration, on which Commissioner Karachi Hassan Naqvi took strict notice and issued instructions to all deputy commissioners for immediate action.
According to the Commissioner Karachi, apart from the central cattle market, only 21 regular cattle markets have been allowed in the city, while illegally established markets in different areas are causing traffic jams, sanitation problems, and increasing civic problems.
During the meeting, deputy commissioners of different districts gave a briefing on the operations. DC South said that the illegal cattle market established on Ghulam Hussain Qasim Road in Kharadar has been dismantled.
Similarly, according to DC Central, three illegal markets established in Nazimabad have been closed, while action was also taken against two in District East and one illegal cattle market established near Qayyumabad Chowrangi in Korangi.
The administration says that illegal livestock markets were causing severe traffic problems for the citizens, especially with the approaching Eid al-Adha, which is witnessing an unprecedented increase in the buying and selling of animals.
The civic circles have welcomed this move of the administration and demanded that action be taken against illegal markets regularly so that traffic and sanitation problems can be controlled.
