Karachi weather forecast: Heavy to moderate rainfall anticipated

KARACHI: After several days of light to heavy intermittent rainfall, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted heavy downpours with thunderstorms for Karachi.

Citizens will likely experience heavy rainfall in evening hours, with the maximum temperatures ranging to 29 to 32 degrees celcius. With humidity increasing up to 80 to 85 % during the night.
The air is moving in the direction of southwest at the speed of 19 km/h. Air quality has been improved due to heavy rainfall in the city providing relief to dust sensitive people.

Heavy rainfall and gusty winds have disrupted the traffic in the city ,also damged many buildings in the areas of lower region.

The Met Office had previously predicted one or two spells of heavy rain in Karachi from August 4 to 7. The department warns that some parts of the city could see rainfall between 40mm to 60mm, with certain areas possibly experiencing up to 100mm of rain.

People are advised to carry rain gear especially in evening hours , do not go near damaged buildings to avoid any collapse. PMD has issued high alert in the city and formed strict emergency measures to avoid any accident.

Earlier forecasts indicated moderate to torrential rains from August 3 to 5. Heavy rain on July 31 had already flooded low-lying areas of Karachi, with intermittent showers continuing in Saddar, II Chundrigar Road, Baldia Town, Defence, and North Karachi.
