LAHORE: Given the present security situation, authorities have temporarily closed educational institutions in Lahore’s Walton Cantonment and surrounding areas.
The decision was taken after multiple explosions were heard near Lahore’s Walton Road. Security forces also confirmed shooting down an Indian spy drone in Lahore’s Naseerabad area.
Eyewitnesses reported hearing at least two to three blasts, after which law enforcement agencies cordoned off the area and started an investigation.
As per details, parents have received calls regarding the closure of private and public schools. Further reports regarding educational institutions in other areas of the city are yet to be confirmed.
As a result of the drone attack, civil aviation authorities also temporarily suspended flights at Lahore, Sialkot, and Karachi airports. Lahore and Sialkot airports will not be available until 12:00 am on May 8, CAA said.
The fresh Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) has been issued, stating that several air routes within Lahore and Sialkot have been closed for commercial flights.
As a result of the restricted airspace, multiple Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flights have been impacted. Several Lahore-bound flights have been rerouted to Islamabad airport.
Moreover, security forces shot down several Indian spy drones over Lahore, Chakwal, Gujranwal, and Ghotki this morning. Wreckage of the drones has been recovered by local police.
