LAHORE: Lahore Police on Tuesday registered a case against a motorist for playing loud music in his car.

The FIR, lodged at Nawab Town Police Station, stated that police had set up a picket on Abdul Sattar Edhi Road to apprehend a proclaimed offender.

The FIR was registered on the complaint of a police official (ASI) Rahmat Ali, who claimed that the policemen had set up a picket at Abdul Sattar Edhi Road to round up a proclaimed offender.

Meanwhile, the complainant Assistant Sub-Inspector Rahmat Ali said that they signalled a car rider at the picket for playing a Punjab song at high volume.

When the policemen questioned him, the driver, Danish Ali, said that it was his hobby to listen to loud music while driving.

Police said the act fell under Section 6 of the Punjab Sound Systems (Regulation) Act, 2015, which restricts the use of loudspeakers and sound systems in public spaces.

The car was seized, and the driver was taken into custody.

The police action drew the attention of the critics, as most of them declared the registration of the case an unwarranted decision and an attempt to breach the privacy of the car rider.
