LDA takes notice after rain washes out Lahore’s bikers lane paint

LAHORE: The recently implemented bikers lane project on Lahore’s Ferozpur road was exposed after the first rainfall on Thursday as it washed away the paint from distinguished lanes.

A video that went viral on social media revealed the poor quality of green and orange paint used for the pilot project on which the Punjab government spent millions of rupees.

The poor lane condition accumulated rainwater at various points and the track turned slippery, worsening conditions for motorcyclists and putting thousands at risk.

Citizens demanded an inquiry into the negligence towards the project which was completed this month. On the directives of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz, a 10-kilometer dedicated lane for motorcyclists was built on Lahore’s Ferozpur Road from Canal Road to Lahore Bridge.

As the issue highlighted, the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) Director General Tahir Farooq has issued a show cause notice to the contractor.

The LDA said that the contractor company used locally manufactured paint and provided a one-year maintenance guarantee for the project.

It made it clear that the local company is bound to repair, restore, and improve the paint free of cost for one year.

Taking on X, politician Moonis Elahi shared a picture of the eroded painted with the caption, “Millions of rupees in publicity, billions of rupees in lime! The first rain in Lahore washed away all the dirt and artificial paint from the […] exhibition bike lane.”

Another social media user wrote, “The paint on Lahore’s Motorcycle Green Line faded away after the first rain. Even the cheapest paint doesn’t wash off after just one rain. It seems like the contractor used lime instead of paint, which couldn’t even withstand a single downpour.”.
