LAHORE: The Anti-Terrorism Court, while delivering its verdict in another case related to the events of May 9, sentenced several Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leaders to prison terms, while acquitting former Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi.

Lahore’s Anti-Terrorism Court Judge Manzar Ali Gul delivered a reserved verdict in the case of burning police vehicles in the court located in Kot Lakhpat Jail.

The court sentenced PTI leaders Mahmood Rashid, Umar Cheema, Ijaz Chaudhry, and Dr. Yasmin Rashid to 10 years in prison each after being found guilty.

On the other hand, the court ordered the acquittal of senior Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi, who was named in the same case, based on evidence.

It should be noted that on May 9, 2023, after the arrest of PTI founder Imran Khan in the Al-Qadir Trust case, PTI leaders and workers protested nationwide, and during this, military installations were also raided.

Law enforcement agencies subsequently arrested several people during the crackdown, some of whom have been sentenced, while others are on trial.

The political and military leadership has decided that the cases of those who attacked military installations will be tried in military courts, while the other accused will be tried in civilian courts.
