Four PTI leaders acquitted in May 9 arson cases in Karachi

Court orders DC to decide on PTI Liaquat Bagh rally

KARACHI: The court acquitted four Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders in the May 9 arson cases, according to media reports.

A local court in Karachi has pronounced its verdict on the acquittal petition of 4 Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leaders, including former member of the National Assembly Faheem Khan and former provincial member Raja Azhar, in the May 9 cases.

Lawyers Iqrar Islam and Saima Iqrar appeared on behalf of the accused. Judicial Magistrate Sharqi pronounced its verdict on the petition of PTI leaders.

The court ruled that the prosecution failed to prove the allegations against the PTI leaders. The court also acquitted the accused, Shahnawaz Jadoon and Shahzad.

According to the police, the PTI leaders were also accused of arson and damage to an armored vehicle during the arrest of PTI founder Imran Khan.

It should be recalled that on May 9, 2023, after the arrest of PTI founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan from the Islamabad High Court premises, PTI workers damaged government, non-government, and military property during the violent nationwide protests by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.

Cases were registered by the state against PTI leaders and workers under the Anti-Terrorism Act for the May 9 tragedy.
