Punjab board to establish AI labs in schools

Punjab board to establish AI labs in schools

LAHORE: Punjab’s Curriculum and Textbook Board (PCTB) has given approval for providing an artificial intelligence educational course from grades 1-5 for students. This was revealed by officials here.

To provide this unique initiative, PCTB will set up an AI laboratory in the Primary Schools and introduce a regular curriculum as well.

To make the course successful, the Province will appoint qualified Educationists on a contract basis because there are no specialized people at government schools who can teach AI courses.

“In the initial phase, we are going to bring AI as a separate subject into the primary school curriculum of Punjab,” he added, explaining that “the second phase would consist of setting up modern science and AI labs” to provide hands-on experiences for pupils.

He said that, should there have been any budgetary problems, Punjab had put together a plan B where basic AI classes would be incorporated into science books already published.

The govt’s proposal received the green light for publication at its last board meeting and will be fully rolled out from 2027.
