No more ‘free’ water for Karachi residents; Here’s why

KARACHI: According to a new notification issued by the city government on Wednesday, residents of Karachi will no longer enjoy free extraction and use of underground water.

As per the notification, for extracting and using underground water in Karachi, metering will now be done like electricity and gas.

The city government will monitor the extraction, use and sale of groundwater. This new regulation applies to Karachi Division and its surrounding areas.

The notification clarifies that it applies to all including corporations, commercial establishments, hotels and educational institutions.
