ISLAMABAD: The opposition alliance accepted Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s offer of talks and expressed its readiness for talks after mutual consultation, while the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf announced that it would take on the responsibility of getting former Prime Minister Imran Khan to sign a new charter.
A meeting of the opposition alliance was held under the chairmanship of Mehmood Khan Achakzai, head of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf on the issue of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s offer of talks to the opposition once again.
The meeting was attended by Vice Chairman Senator Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, Asad Qaiser, Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar, Sajid Tareen and Hussain Yousafzai.
The meeting held detailed consultations on the opposition’s 2-day national conference and February 8th Black Day, and the strategy of Black Day and strike across the country and the world on February 8th was considered. In addition, the Prime Minister’s offer of talks was also considered in the meeting.
The meeting agreed on the need for a new charter to get the country out of the political and economic crisis, while the meeting decided that transparent elections, a new election commissioner and parliamentary supremacy would be part of the new charter.
Addressing the federal cabinet meeting, Shahbaz Sharif had said that the founder of PTI and his colleagues are talking about negotiations.
I have already invited the PTI leadership for negotiations. I also invited PTI for negotiations on the assembly floor. I invite them once again for negotiations, but negotiations can only be held on legitimate demands. Blackmailing under the guise of negotiations will not work.
On the other hand, PTI leader Sheikh Waqas Akram says that the government’s approach is a sign of political panic and intellectual bankruptcy.
The government is using negotiations as a form of duplicity and to fool the people.
Sheikh Waqas Akram said in his statement that the government can contact Mahmood Achakzai and Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, PTI will not engage in talks with the government under any circumstances, and Shehbaz Sharif’s offer of talks is duplicitous and contradictory.
