ISLAMABAD (Rizwan Abbasi): Pakistan has expressed deep concern and serious reservations over the recent events in the brotherly country of Iran, and condemned Israeli aggression.

Addressing a weekly press briefing in Islamabad, Foreign Office Spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan said that Pakistan has long-standing, close and brotherly relations with Iran, and the current situation is being closely monitored.

Khan added that there is a long history of cooperation between the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and Iran at the global level, and Pakistan has never heard that Iran has talked about stopping any kind of cooperation with this organization.

In the context of relations with Iran, the spokesperson explained that Pakistan has not received any formal request from Iran regarding providing shelter to refugees. Similarly, no request for any kind of military assistance has been received from Iran so far.

The Foreign Office spokesperson said that social media in today’s era, while it is a means of instant transmission of information, has also become a major source of spreading misinformation, so the public should show responsibility.

In addition to that, the spokesperson said that Pakistan’s position on the issue of Iran is very clear and unequivocal. Pakistan condemns Israeli aggression on Iran in the strongest terms and prioritizes peace and stability of the region at all costs, he maintained.

Expressing a strong reaction to the new regulations issued by India in Ladakh, the spokesperson said that these measures are a clear violation of UN resolutions and international laws regarding occupied Kashmir.

“Pakistan demands the immediate withdrawal of measures taken by India in Ladakh,” the FO Spox added.

The spokesperson said that the role of the United States in reducing tensions in Pak-India relations was unambiguous, clear, and positive, which Pakistan appreciates.
