ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s security forces carried out what the government described as “precise and calibrated” strikes against militant hideouts and safe havens along the border areas with Afghanistan, killing 26 militants, according to Information Minister Attaullah Tarar.

In a statement posted on X, the minister said the operation was launched in response to a series of recent terrorist attacks in different parts of the country, including an attack on a Federal Constabulary post in Musa Dara on June 9, a vehicle-borne suicide attack on a military post in North Waziristan on June 2, and a suicide attack on a police station in Bannu on May 9.

According to Tarar, the operation targeted militants affiliated with what the government refers to as “Fitna Al Khwarij.” He claimed that the strikes were conducted based on credible intelligence and were aimed at locations used by planners and facilitators of militant attacks.

The minister said four targets were destroyed during the operation, including a training centre, a hideout, an ammunition cache, and operational centres allegedly linked to militant commanders Aleem Khan Khushali and Akhtar Muhammad Jani Khel.

Tarar stated that the operation was carried out with precision to target specific militant infrastructure and described the action as part of Pakistan’s ongoing counterterrorism campaign.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the region while ensuring the safety and security of citizens.

The minister said counterterrorism operations under the “Azm-e-Istehkam” framework would continue to eliminate militant threats and strengthen national security.
