ISLAMABAD: Muslims worldwide are all set to observe Shab e Mairaj today with great religious sanctity and fervor. This is a significant event in Islamic history, marking the miraculous journey of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) from the Kaaba in Mecca to the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem, followed by his ascension (Mairaj) into the heavens.

This specific night is dedicated to special prayer gatherings to invoke the mercy and forgiveness of Allah (SWT). Religious clerics will address the importance of the event of Mairaj and its teachings in Islam.

Special prayers and Mahafil will be held in mosques and other places, where Muslims will gather to seek the blessings of the Almighty. The atmosphere will be filled with devotion and spirituality, as houses, buildings, and streets are decorated with buntings, candles, and colorful lights to celebrate the occasion.

The Muslims observe Shab e Mairaj every year on the 27th of the lunar month of Rajab-ul-Murajab, and it is considered a night when Allah’s blessings and forgiveness are abundant.

The word Mairaj is derived from the Arabic word Urooj, which means ascension, and it was on this night that the holy Prophet (PBUH) visited the highest heaven to meet Allah (SWT).

During this divine journey, the Prophet received instructions from Allah, including the obligatory daily prayers (Salah) for Muslims. Shab e Mairaj is imagined as a sometimes-unknown night for reflection and divine mercy, when Muslims take the chance to seek blessings and forgiveness from Allah.

While observing Shab e Mairaj, Muslims are reminded of the teachings of Islam along with the importance of being on the right path.
