Pakistan weather update! PMD predicts another week of heavy rain & thunderstorm

ISLAMABAD: According to the Met Office, weak monsoon currents are continuously penetrating in upper/central parts of the country and are likely to intensify from 4th August. A westerly wave is likely to strengthen on 5th August. Under the influence of these meteorological conditions:

KP Weather!

Rain-wind/thundershower with isolated heavy falls is expected in Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Buner, Malakand, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai Kurram, Kohat, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Mardan, Swabi, Hangu, Karak, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Waziristan, Tank, and Dera Ismail Khan from 4th to 7th August with occasional gaps.

Punjab/Islamabad

Rain-wind/thundershower with scattered heavy falls is expected in Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Sahiwal, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Khushab, Sargodha, Mianwali, Nankana Sahib, Chiniot, Faisalabad and Kasur from 4th to 7th August with occasional gaps.

Rain-wind/thundershower is also likely in D.G. Khan, Bhakkar, Layyah, Multan and Bahawalpur on 06th August.

Sindh

Mainly hot and humid weather is expected in most parts of the province. However, cloudy weather with light rain/drizzle is expected in coastal areas during the period.

Balochistan

Mainly hot and humid weather is expected in most parts of the province. However, rain-wind/thundershower is expected in the Northeastern/southern parts (Barkhan, Musakhel, Loralai, Sibbi, Zhob, Qilla Saifullah and Khuzdar) on 6th August.

Kashmir/ Gilgit-Baltistan

Rain-wind/thundershower with isolated heavyfalls is expected in Kashmir (Neelum valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, Mirpur) from 4th to 7th August, while rain-wind/thunderstorm with isolated heavyfalls is expected in Gilgit-Baltistan (Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, Shigar) from 5th to 7th August with occasional gaps.

Possible Impacts and Advice

  • Heavy rains may generate flash floods in local nullahs/streams of Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Mansehra, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Buner, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Mardan, Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Northeast Punjab, and Kashmir from 5th to 7th August.
  • Heavy falls may cause urban floods in low-lying areas of Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, and Sialkot on 5th to 7th August.
  • Landslides/mudslides may cause road closures in the vulnerable hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, Galliyat, and Kashmir during the forecast period.
  • Heavy falls/windstorm and lightning may damage weak structures like the roof/wall of Kacha houses, electric poles, billboards, vehicles, and solar panels, etc during the forecast period.
  • Public, travelers, and tourists are advised to avoid unusual exposure to vulnerable areas to avoid any untoward situation and keep updated about the latest weather conditions.
