Pakistan witnesses third Supermoon of 2024

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is witnessing its third Supermoon of the year, which started rising at 4:26 pm, offering a spectacular celestial display for evening sky watchers.

As per the details, this marks the third of four supermoons in a row, the current one being the brightest by a small margin. This event occurs when the moon’s orbit brings it closer to Earth, causing it to shine about 14 percent brighter and appear 7 percent larger than a normal full moon.

Other regions like New Zealand, Japan and Australia will also get a chance to witness the supermoon. For those wests of the International Date Line, the event will be visible late Wednesday night, while in regions like New Zealand, it will be visible early Friday morning.

The next supermoon is scheduled for November 15, keeping moon enthusiasts eager for more. The moon will be fully visible for about three days from Tuesday evening to Friday morning. Adding to the excitement, astronomers note that occasionally there are two full moons within a single lunar month, the second being called a “blue moon.”
