PDMA report shows 406 deaths in KP floods

PESHAWAR: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has released a detailed report on the loss of life and property due to the rains and flash floods that have occurred since August 15.

According to the report, 406 people died and 245 were injured in various accidents in different districts of the province.

The dead include 305 men, 55 women, and 46 children, while the injured include 179 men, 38 women, and 30 children.

A total of 3,526 houses were damaged as a result of the rains and flash floods, of which 2,945 houses have been declared partially destroyed and 577 houses have been declared destroyed.

The report further stated that Buner district was the worst affected, where the death toll has reached 337 so far, while 46 people lost their lives in Swabi.

Other accidents also occurred in Swat, Bajaur, Mansehra, Shangla, Dir Lower, Battagram, and Dera Ismail Khan.

PDMA has directed the administrations of the affected districts to further intensify relief activities and provide immediate assistance to the victims.

According to the spokesperson, PDMA and all relevant agencies are in constant contact with each other and are monitoring the situation.

Officials say that the Emergency Operation Center is fully functional and the public has been instructed to immediately contact the toll-free helpline 1700 for any untoward incident, weather conditions, or information.
