LAHORE: The government has completed preparations to introduce a new system for subsidizing petrol. For this purpose, a mobile app has been developed, through which cheap petrol will be provided to low-income people. Especially motorcycle and rickshaw owners have been included in this scheme.
According to sources, this step is being taken in view of inflation and rising petrol prices. The government wants that direct relief should be given to common citizens and the benefit of the subsidy should reach the real deserving people.
The Ministry of Information Technology has developed a special app for this project, which is currently in the trial phase. Through this app, users will have to enter their details, including their identity card number and vehicle registration number.
Under this scheme, a quota of 20 liters of petrol per month has been proposed for motorcycle and rickshaw owners. When consumers go to a petrol pump, they will be verified through the app and they will be provided with a fixed quantity of subsidized petrol.
To make this system effective, modern mobile devices will be provided to about 12,000 petrol pumps across the country. In addition, special nozzles will also be installed so that subsidized petrol can be provided separately and any kind of corruption can be avoided.
According to officials, this system will be automated and will set quotas according to the need of the consumer and the available fuel. This will increase transparency and will also control unnecessary consumption.
Moreover, the government is considering including small vehicles up to 800 cc in this scheme. However, a final decision in this regard has not been taken yet.
