ISLAMABAD: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has initiated a special flight operation to evacuate stranded Pakistanis in Iran during the Israeli-Iran conflict.
A PIA flight left Peshawar for Ashgabat, the capital city of Turkmenistan, on Tuesday evening for the evacuation. In coordination with the Pakistani embassy, 150 Pakistanis were evacuated from Mashhad city in Iran to Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.
These people, who were stranded after Iranian airspace was closed, will be brought back home through a special PIA flight from Ashgabat. On the orders of the government, PIA has also confirmed that more special flights will be scheduled so more stranded citizens can be brought back safely.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met Iranian Ambassador Reza Amiri Moghadam during his visit to the Pakistan International Maritime Expo and Conference on Monday.
While meeting, PM Shehbaz Sharif repeated Pakistan‘s solidarity with Iran and strongly condemned Israeli aggression and assault on the country.
PM Shehbaz Sharif also extended heartfelt condolences to the innocent lives lost in Iran as a result of recent Israeli attacks. He pointed out that the whole of Pakistan stands with the neighbouring nation during the conflict between Israel and Iran.
PM Shehbaz Sharif also referred to his recent talk with Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, renewing Pakistan’s support for Iran at the United Nations Security Council, where Pakistan opposed Israeli moves as a breach of the UN Charter and international laws.
