KARACHI: In a tragic incident, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) former UC Chairman Amanullah Afridi was shot dead by unknown armed assailants in Baldia Town Karachi.
According to a police report Afridi was targeted in Baldia No.7 when he was leaving the mosque after offering Fajr prayer. The police arrived swiftly at the crime scene and investigation began however, no arrest has been made yet.
Afridi was 65 years old at the time of his death, additionally, he also stood for elections to the city’s local governments recently from UC-5, Abidabad, indicating that political involvement might have been the potential motive for the murder.
In another incident, Fazal Zaman was shot dead by armed individuals in the North Nazimabad area, according to the police Fazal was heading toward the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) and a letter has been found in the car of the victim, seeking permission for commercial shops, leading authorities to believe that the person might be in the real estate business.
Both incidents are under investigation, and justice should be meted out to the culprits. These senseless acts of violence bring to light the acute need for increasingly stringent security measures around public figures and politicians.
