ISLAMABAD: An important meeting of the National Security Committee is underway under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif amid the rising situation in the Middle East.
According to sources, the National Security Committee is reviewing the situation arising after the Iran-Israel conflict.
The Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff, the three service chiefs, and federal ministers are participating in the meeting.
The military and civilian leadership will participate in the meeting, while Field Marshal Asim Munir will take the participants into confidence on his recent visit to the United States. According to sources.
The meeting will also review the country’s internal and border security situation.
Earlier, Pakistan’s permanent representative at the United Nations, Asim Iftikhar, said that Pakistan strongly condemned the US attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities in an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council.
Ifthikar said that the US attacks will further increase tensions in the region. The Security Council should take immediate steps to reduce tensions.
Speaking on the occasion, Pakistani delegate Asim Iftikhar thanked the Security Council for convening an emergency meeting.
The Pakistani delegate said that he strongly supports the condemnation of the attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities, an immediate and unconditional ceasefire, and Iran’s right to defend itself.
