Pakistan urges restraint after US strikes, reaffirm supports for Iran at UNSC

NEW YORK:  Pakistan’s permanent representative at the United Nations, Asim Iftikhar, said that Pakistan strongly condemned the US attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities in an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council.

Ifthikar said that the US attacks will further increase tensions in the region. The Security Council should take immediate steps to reduce tensions.

Ambassador further said that Pakistan fully supports Iran’s right to defend itself.

According to Arab TV, a resolution was presented in the Security Council by Russia, China, and Pakistan, which called for an immediate ceasefire and emphasized adherence to international law, protection of civilians, and a negotiated solution.

Speaking on the occasion, Pakistani delegate Asim Iftikhar thanked the Security Council for convening an emergency meeting.

The Pakistani delegate said that he strongly supports the condemnation of the attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities, an immediate and unconditional ceasefire, and Iran’s right to defend itself.

Asim Iftikhar said that in the previous meeting, the council members had been informed about the tensions. Pakistan adopted a principled position in accordance with the UN Charter.

Diplomacy should be given a chance for a peaceful resolution of the conflict. We want a peaceful resolution of the conflict.

The Pakistani delegate said that the attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities are a violation of UN resolutions, members have a duty to implement Security Council resolutions, and the Council should take immediate steps to reduce tensions.
