ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has ordered departmental action against former Director General of the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), Waqaruddin Syed, over allegations of corruption and misconduct during his tenure.
According to sources, the action has been initiated in light of alleged confessional statements and video confessions recorded by subordinate officers regarding irregularities within the agency. A formal charge sheet has also been issued against the former NCCIA chief.
The government has appointed Grade-21 officer Salman Chaudhry as the inquiry officer to conduct the departmental investigation and submit his findings in accordance with the relevant rules and procedures.
Meanwhile, Waqaruddin Syed has approached the Islamabad High Court, seeking to stop the departmental proceedings on technical grounds. The former official has challenged the legality of the inquiry and requested judicial intervention.
The matter is expected to take both administrative and legal dimensions as the inquiry process moves forward.
