LAHORE: To protect women from acid attacks, the Punjab Acid Control Bill 2024 has been presented in the Punjab Assembly, here on Thursday.
According to the details, Acid Control Bill 2024 was presented by MPA of Pakistan Muslim League (N) and Chairperson of Punjab Women Protection Authority Hina Parvaiz Butt.
Hina Parvaiz Butt said that the purpose of this bill is to regulate the sale and purchase of acid to prevent acid attacks.
She further said that once the bill is passed, it will be immediately implemented across Punjab.
According to the bill, any acid vendor will have to obtain a permit from the licensing authority, and the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of the district concerned will act as the licensing authority. The license will be valid for two years.
In case of any legal violation, the licensing authority will have the right to cancel the license. If a vendor fails to obtain a license within 120 days of the enactment of the bill, it will face fines and penalties.
The bill also bans the sale of acid to persons below 18 years of age.
