LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has initiated a comprehensive plan to enhance the welfare of labourers across the province. In a recent evaluation session, CM Maryam approved several initiatives aimed at housing, health, and education for workers.
The chief minister ordered to provide a minimum wage of PKR37,000 to make sure no workforce sleeps hungry or experiences hardship.
To achieve this goal, CM Maryam Nawaz has directed the establishment of labour colonies, the revamp of social security hospitals, and the construction of new healthcare facilities.
Additionally, the Maryam Nawaz Sharif Wellness Centers will be set up in Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Islamabad for pre-screening, with huge hospitals being there to provide treatment.
Moreover, she approved a 200-bed Rehmatul-ul-Alameen Cardiology Center and a 50-bed Social Security Hospital in Rahim Yar Khan.
CM Maryam Nawaz also sought amendments to the existing labour law, along with a comprehensive plan from Mr. Faisal Ayub Khokhar, the Provincial Minister for Labour.
She stressed that it is the responsibility of the government to see to the welfare of labourers, which includes their wages, medical treatment, employment, and shelter.
In addition, the Punjab government committed itself to provide children of labourers with better opportunities for higher education.
In another major step, Maryam Nawaz announced free flats were to be given to workers in Taxila and Sunder labour colonies to the number of 1,224 and also that Rs 6 billion was to be set aside in death and marriage grants to 29,000 labourers.
