Punjab CM okays Rs5,000 per acre support price for farmers

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Monday approved a support price of Rs5,000 per acre for 600,000 farmers through Kisan Card.

She announced that farmers without Kisan Card will also get the same subsidy. She added that billions of rupees will be given as subsidy for the upcoming crops.

Maryam said that billions of rupees more financial assistance will be given for the upcoming crop season to increase production and help farmers.

She highlighted that farmers have used Rs36 billion for agriculture through Kisan Card. It is to be noted that they have repaid loans worth Rs22 billion, which shows a repayment rate of 60 percent.

She added that based on this performance, the Punjab government is releasing the second installment of loans for the next season.

The meeting also reviewed the solarization scheme for agricultural tube wells and considered proposals for implementing the Wheat Support Program.

It was also informed during the meeting that 50 percent of the applications for wheat subsidy have been received and verified.

Finally, the Punjab Chief Minister stressed that transparency and accountability would be mandatory in the distribution process, and that it was imperative to ensure timely delivery of subsidies to deserving farmers.
