LAHORE: The Punjab government on Thursday extended the summer vacation for all public and private schools across the province, the Punjab School Education Department said in a notification.

According to the education department, the holidays have been extended until August 31, with schools scheduled to reopen on Monday, September 1.

“All Schools (Public and Private) shall reopen on Monday, 1 September 2025, resuming a full/normal week for all classes,” it reads. “All Chief Executive Officers of District Authorities (DEAs) are directed to ensure compliance with the directions in letter and spirit,” the notification stated.

The decision came as high temperatures and humidity levels raised concerns related to the impact on children’s health.

Earlier, a notification circulated on social media, claiming that the Punjab government has extended the summer vacation, the authenticity of which was earlier denied by the concerned department.

The School Education Department clarified that no such decision had been made, and that any official updates would be communicated through proper channels.

As the speculation arose, the Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat had said that a proposal is under consideration to extend the summer holidays in the wake of the ongoing harsh weather.

“We are closely monitoring the weather situation, and a final decision will be made soon in the best interest of students’ health and safety,” he said.
