LAHORE: The Punjab government has decided not to promote 11,000 teachers currently serving in public schools as regular school heads, according to official sources.
It is reported that all the posts of permanent headmaster and headmistress have been blocked for teachers. Even the dozens of teachers and educators who passed the merit-based tests have not been appointed to head positions.
The School Education Department has said that the teachers cannot be accorded DDO powers, necessary to manage school funds, until the existing rules and regulations are amended.
The department said a proposal for the appointment of teachers as regular heads will be moved to the provincial cabinet for approval in due course.
Officials said the move has been made to maintain adherence to administrative policies and to manage financial powers in government schools accordingly.
