ISLAMABAD: The Punjab government is all set to provide free travel on major public transport routes for senior citizens, students and persons with disabilities in major cities including Lahore, Multan and Rawalpindi.
As per the details, the provincial government is considering offering free travel services on Orange Line, Metro and Speedo buses for senior citizens, students and disabled persons. The Department of Transportation, along with the Mass Transit Authority, is awaiting final approval.
These free transport services will be available in Lahore, Multan and Rawalpindi, including Metro Bus and Orange Line train routes. A proposal for this welfare program has been submitted to the Cabinet Committee on Finance and its final approval is expected in a meeting chaired by senior minister Maryam Aurangzeb.
Once approved, this initiative will play a key role in increasing transport accessibility for vulnerable groups across Punjab.
Metro in Lahore is indeed a major transport option for daily commutes as it provides thousands of residents with a reliable and efficient way to travel across the city. The metro plays an important role in reducing traffic congestion, and offers a comfortable and affordable alternative to private vehicles.
This makes it especially valuable for daily commuters, including those who rely on public transport to get to work, school or other daily activities.
