LAHORE: The Planning and Development (P&D) Board has given the go-ahead for renting 15,000 tablets to carry out a socio-economic survey across the province.

The details are that the tablets will be rented at Rs 2,500 per month each, bringing the total annual cost to Rs 450 million. The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) will provide the tablets under an agreement to be inked soon between the two organizations.

The survey would be conducted jointly by the Punjab Bureau of Statistics and the Urban Unit, who would deploy teams to collect socio-economic data through a door-to-door survey.

The collected data would allow the government of Punjab to use evidence-based policymaking, officials said. Welfare programs and development schemes would be framed and provided in the future using correct data so that the beneficiaries could be given targeted support.
