LAHORE: Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat has announced that all educational institutions across the province will reopen on April 1.
In a statement, the minister clarified that schools in Punjab will remain closed for holidays till March 31 and will resume functioning the next day.
Rana Sikandar Hayat also denied rumors circulating regarding the extension of school holidays, urging parents not to pay attention to fake news.
Earlier this month, on March 9, the Punjab government had announced the temporary closure of all educational institutions in response to the economic pressure caused by the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East.
The decision, implemented on the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, came after the price of petroleum increased due to disruptions in the global fuel supply chain.
All schools, colleges and universities in the province will remain closed from March 10 to March 31. Institutions are allowed to continue online classes, and scheduled exams will go ahead as planned.
The move comes after global concerns over fuel shortages, with Pakistan, like other countries, affected by the blockage of the Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for international fuel shipments.
