Punjab yet to decide on summer vacations as holiday cut proposal under review

LAHORE: The provincial government’s stance regarding summer vacations in schools across Punjab has come to light.

Provincial Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat said in his statement that no decision has been taken regarding summer vacations in Punjab schools yet, and three to four proposals regarding vacations are being considered.

Rana Sikandar Hayat further said that the final decision regarding summer vacations in schools will be taken in the next few days.

It should be noted that in April, the provincial education minister had shared important details regarding summer vacations 2026 in educational institutions.

Rana Sikandar Hayat, while ending the ongoing speculations about the vacations, had clarified that the final decision would be taken after May.

He also revealed that the provincial government is considering reducing the summer vacations by 15 to 20 days this year to make up for the educational losses.

“The government wants to increase the number of teaching days in the academic year from 180 to 190 days to ensure timely completion of the syllabus, and a proposal to reduce not only the summer but also the winter holidays by 5 to 6 days is under consideration.”
