NEW DELHI: Several leaders and workers, including Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi and Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi, were arrested during a protest by the Congress outside Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence over the paper leaks issue in India.
According to a foreign news agency, Congress workers marched towards the Prime Minister’s residence to protest against the leak of exam papers, but the police stopped the protesters from moving forward.
According to reports, Rahul Gandhi was detained near the Prime Minister’s residence. Despite resistance, the police forcibly transferred Rahul Gandhi to a bus and took him to an unknown location.
Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi was also detained during the protest, while several other workers and protesters were also arrested by the police.
The protesters demanded the resignation of the Education Minister and said that the leak of medical entrance exam papers in May is proof of deep corruption in the education system.
Yesterday, supporters of the youth-led “Cockroach Movement” in India attempted to march towards Parliament, but the police foiled them with shelling and arrests.
