ISLAMABAD: Astronomy enthusiasts are set to witness a rare celestial event as a “Blue Moon” is expected to appear in the night sky, offering a spectacular sight for skywatchers across Pakistan and around the world.

According to astronomers, the phenomenon is considered unusual because a full moon typically occurs only once in a calendar month. However, this month witnessed a full moon at the beginning of May, commonly known as the “Flower Moon,” while another full moon is expected at the end of the month. The second full moon occurring within the same month is traditionally referred to as a “Blue Moon.”

Despite its name, the moon will not actually appear blue. Experts explain that it will retain its familiar golden and silver hues, although it is expected to shine brightly and create an impressive visual display.

Astronomers have also described this event as a “Micro Moon” because the moon will be near its farthest point from Earth during the full moon phase. As a result, it may appear slightly smaller than a typical full moon.

In Pakistan, the lunar spectacle is expected to be visible shortly after sunset, rising above the eastern horizon. Weather permitting, people will be able to enjoy the view with the naked eye without the need for telescopes or special equipment.

The event has generated excitement among photographers, amateur astronomers and stargazing enthusiasts, many of whom are preparing to capture the rare sight.

Experts note that such occurrences are relatively uncommon, making the upcoming Blue Moon a special opportunity for those interested in observing the wonders of the night sky.
