Relief for Public: Subsidized fuel scheme announced in Pakistan

Petrol, diesel hit Rs500 per litre in Balochistan

ISLAMABAD:  The Government of Pakistan has issued a comprehensive guideline under the Fuel Quota Program to provide relief to the people from rising inflation and fuel prices.

The aim of this initiative is to facilitate the low-income group in particular so that they can meet their daily travel expenses in a better way.

According to the government announcement, the continuous increase in oil prices globally is affecting the prices of petrol and diesel in Pakistan as well, due to which the common citizens are facing severe financial pressure. Keeping this situation in mind, the government has decided to provide a limited subsidy, under which a certain amount of subsidized fuel will be given to the deserving people.

To get the fuel quota, citizens will have to register through a specific mobile application. Users will have to download the app and provide their National Identity Card number, vehicle registration and other necessary information. After registration, users will be provided with details of their quota, while a digital voucher or QR code will be issued to get fuel, which can be used at petrol pumps.

According to officials, the scope of this program has been limited so that only the truly deserving people can benefit from it. The scheme includes motorcycles, rickshaws and small vehicles up to 800 cc, while large and luxury vehicles will not be able to benefit from this facility. In addition, eligibility will be determined on the basis of income so that priority can be given to the weaker sections.

Experts say that this measure may be helpful in providing relief to the people in the short term, but for a long-term solution, the government will also have to focus on alternative energy sources and policy reforms. Officials have appealed to the public to provide accurate information during the registration process and take advantage of this facility responsibly.
