THAR: After persisting heat in Sindh Province, Several  Peacocks died, and some got sick in Thar district due to scorching heat and diseases, according to media reports citing the locals of the district.

Wildlife authorities have refused to share the details of the dead and sick peacocks in Thar. Locals of the area have shown dissatisfaction with the steps taken to save the birds.

“We have received reports of peacock deaths from the villages of Mithi Tehsil.” Due to climate change and water scarcity, peacocks fall ill and eventually die, according to Deputy Conservator Mir Ijaz Talpur.

“We have been receiving reports of peacock deaths and illness for the past three days. This morning, we dispatched a team to the village of Bhimasar in Mithi to treat the peacocks,” he said.

However, the locals have reported that the death toll of the beautiful birds has crossed 100, while others claimed that the number is over 300 this year.

“The heat affects the brains of peacocks, which can be treated. Peacocks can be given multivitamins and antibiotics mixed in water. Whenever the Wildlife Department calls us, we are ready to accompany them.” Dr Suwai Mal, Deputy Director of the Poultry Department, said.

“The Wildlife Department declared the peacock as Sindh’s national bird, but has abandoned it. They should set up camps in major villages to ensure immediate treatment for the peacocks,” said the residents, showing frustration with the authorities.
