Structural Overhaul: Balochistan ends Religious Affairs Department

QUETTA: The Balochistan government has approved the abolition of the provincial Religious Affairs Department in a major change in the administrative structure.

According to media reports, a formal notification to abolish the Religious Affairs Department is likely to be issued within the next week.

After the notification, the employees posted in the provincial secretariat will be handed over to the Administration and Coordination Department.

After the government decision, about 450 government posts associated with the Religious Affairs Department have been abolished, while all the properties, offices, vehicles, and other assets of the department will be handed over to the Board of Revenue.

The staff posted in the districts will be under the respective Deputy Commissioners, while the staff working at the divisional level will report to the Commissioners.

According to reports, as a result of this decision, about Rs 4 billion deposited in the Zakat Fund under the Religious Affairs Department has been transferred to the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP).
