Supreme Court seeks jail meeting record in Imran Khan case

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court has sought a complete record of the meetings and a comprehensive report from the jail administration in a case filed by PTI founder Imran Khan regarding his meetings in jail.

The apex court has directed the Adiala Jail administration to submit the required records in this regard along with a comprehensive report to the court within 3 weeks.

A 3-member bench of the Supreme Court headed by Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar heard the case.

During the hearing, the Advocate General Islamabad said that a time limit should be given to submit a comprehensive report in the case, to which the court granted a time limit of 3 weeks to submit the report.

During the hearing, Additional Advocate General Punjab Waseem Mumtaz raised objections to the admissibility of the petitions and said that the Punjab government has an objection to the hearing of the petitions, while an appeal cannot be filed against the unanimous decision of the Islamabad High Court.

Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar remarked that the court should be informed about how many meetings took place, when they took place, and who met them, and a complete and comprehensive report should be submitted in this regard.

Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar further remarked that the Islamabad High Court was assured that there would be no media talk outside the jail.

He inquired whether talking to the media outside the jail was not a violation of this assurance. To which PTI founder Salman Akram Raja’s lawyer took the stand that the Islamabad High Court’s order was not unanimous.

Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar said that if the decision was not unanimous, a review petition could have been filed in the High Court against it.

Later, the Supreme Court directed the jail administration to submit a detailed report and complete records regarding the meetings within 3 weeks and adjourned the hearing of the case.
