Supreme Court to pronounce verdict in NAB amendments case on THIS day: Details inside

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC) will deliver its reserved judgment on Friday on a review petition against the federal government’s decision against amending the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) rules.

As per the details, the 5-member larger bench of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faiz Isa, Justice Aminuddin Khan, Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail, Justice Athar Minallah and Justice Hasan Azhar Rizvi after hearing the arguments of all the parties. During the previous hearing, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, who had challenged the amendments, attended the hearing via video link from Rawalpindi’s Adyal Jail and completed his arguments.

The Supreme Court heard the final arguments of all the parties and reserved the verdict which will be pronounced later from the court office.

It is worth mentioning here that the Supreme Court declared null and void the amendments made in the NAB rules on the petition of the founder of PTI.

In a 2-1 majority decision, the Supreme Court allowed Imran Khan’s petition challenging the amendments made to the country’s accountability laws during the previous Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM)-led government.

The Supreme Court also revived corruption cases against public office holders that were closed after the amendments in the NAB rules.

Subsequently, the federal government filed a review petition in the case under the SC Practice and Procedure Act and made the Federation of Pakistan, the National Accountability Bureau, and the founder of the PTI as defendants.

Citing that the NAB amendments do not violate fundamental rights, the federal government requested the Supreme Court to review its decision. The petition said that legislation is the right of Parliament.

“It was an important point when we rejected the request. And, our apprehensions were proved right on the day”, he added.
