KARACHI: Jinnah International Airport administration issued safety instructions after a rain forecast in Karachi. In the instructions, the Jinnah airport administration has directed all departments to stay vigilant during the monsoon season in Karachi.
The airport authority also issued a warning of a high risk of bird activity as a result of insect breeding during rain. It instructed that bird control staff and inspectors have to be stationed at the airside.
Further, provisions should be made for shifting or locking light aircraft in secure places. The authority further emphasized the removal of obstacles outside the perimeter fence to ensure rainwater drainage is handled appropriately.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department has predicted hot and humid weather in Karachi for the next two days. The PMD reports that partly cloudy weather is to continue, along with high humidity, leading to uncomfortable conditions.
The PMD further stated that sea breezes are being partly hindered, resulting in unabated suffocating heat in the city. Nevertheless, a change in weather is expected from Friday (June 27), with the chance of dust storms and thunderstorms with rain.
The PDMA Punjab previously reported that 37mm of rainfall was received by the Lahore airport area within 24 hours.
A PDMA spokesman, while giving reports of pre-monsoon rain in different districts of the province, informed that Lahore airport area observed 37mm rain and the rest of the city observed 4mm rain.
