ISLAMABAD: Hadiqa Kiani is regarded as one of Pakistan’s most powerful vocalists. The artist, who is known for singing in numerous languages, has dabbled in a variety of musical styles and wowed audiences throughout the world. However, one of Kiani’s songs appears to be a fan favourite, especially among audiences on the other side of the border. ‘Buhe Bariyan,’ originally recorded and released by Hadiqa Kiani in 1998. Is the singer’s first Punjabi single. However, much to the singer’s dismay, this particular track has been repeatedly stolen by Indian artists.
Hadiqa Kiani posted to Instagram on April 28 to point out that ‘Buhe Bariyan’ has been picked up by an Indian singer for the second time. With no acknowledgment given to the original artist. “Another day, another shameless version of my mother’s song,” she wrote. “No one has sought for my permission. No one has paid me royalties. They just take the song my mother created and I recorded and exploit it as an easy money making plan,” the singer said. Criticising Indian musicians for taking her work without permission.
Although Kanika Kapoor’s version is the most recent addition to the list. Kiani reminded her followers that the song has been plagiarised before. She further revealed that some of these videos later credit her by adding “original song: Buhe Bariyan by Hadiqa Kiani” in the credits.
Kiani also reminded her followers that she always acquires the rights to a song before covering it. Either asking for permission or paying royalties to the original artist. Because it is the ethical way to do things.
“I am alive and well; if you want to perform one of my songs, please ask me first,” Kiani said to her followers. She also stated that she has no animosity toward Kanika Kapoor or any of the other artists who have previously performed her songs. Kiani emphasised her dissatisfaction by saying, “I’m really angry with the way they all seem to go about the procedure.”
