ISLAMABAD: Indian actress Kangana Ranaut criticized Netflix and compared it with Amazon Prime on her Instagram. Kangana wrote in a post shared on her Instagram story, ‘The figures show that Amazon Prime Video is performing better than Netflix in India… probably because they are much more open-minded and are democratic. When international heads come to India, they don’t go to the infamous parties of 90s directors. Rather, they meet those who are contributing to their platform. Last time I heard the head of Netflix was not able to understand the Indian market. Well, the Indian market is not a 90s director who gossips a lot. There are hundreds of talented people here.
Taking to her Instagram Stories, Kangana referenced a recent statement by Netflix CEO Reed Hastings that the company was frustrated about lack of subscriber growth in India.
On Sunday, Karan Johar threw a party for Bela Bajaria, chief of Netflix global TV. The party was attended by Bollywood celebs. The guest list included Madhuri Dixit, Shah Rukh Khan, Farhan Akhtar, Shibani Dandekar, Alia Bhatt, Ranveer Singh, Sara Ali Khan, Kriti Sanon, Shashank Khaitan, Manish Malhotra and Siddharth Roy Kapoor. Targeting this party through her post, Kangana attacked Karan Johar without naming him. Kangana Ranaut said that while the head of Netflix was busy attending star-lit parties of ‘The Vanishing Director of the 90s’, the head of Amazon Prime Video was busy with the people who create the platform’s content.
Incidentally on Thursday Karan Johar was hosting the Amazon Prime video’s grand event in Mumbai. In the same event Kangana Ranaut was there to announce her film Tiku Weds Sheru on the amazon prime platform. In fact, Karan Johar’s Dharma Production and Dharmatic both have partnerships with the Amazon Prime Video for the releasing of multiple web series and films on the platform.
Tiku Weds Sheru is Kangana’s production debut. The film, starring Avneet Kaur and Nawazuddin Siddiqui, and it is directed by Sai Kabir of Revolver Rani fame. Kangana has described the film as a “love story amidst the beauty and brutality of life.”
