Rajpal Yadav Sentenced to Jail in ₹9 Crore Cheque Bounce Dispute

Rajpal Yadav jail sentence

Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav has suffered a legal setback after the Delhi High Court upheld his conviction in a long-running cheque bounce dispute linked to a film production loan. The court maintained the earlier verdict, sentencing the actor to three months in prison in each of seven cheque bounce cases.

The legal matter dates back to 2010, when Rajpal Yadav and his wife reportedly borrowed ₹5 crore from a Delhi-based businessman to finance the actor’s directorial venture, Ata Pata Laapata. However, the film failed to perform at the box office, and the loan remained unpaid.

According to court records, several cheques issued to the lender were later dishonoured, prompting multiple legal proceedings. Over the years, accumulated interest and related charges reportedly increased the outstanding amount to nearly ₹9 crore.

After reviewing the appeal, the Delhi High Court declined to interfere with the previous ruling. In addition to the prison sentence, the court directed Rajpal Yadav to pay ₹1.05 crore as compensation in each of the seven cases to the complainant.

Rajpal Yadav has remained one of Bollywood’s most recognizable comedy stars for decades. He has earned widespread appreciation for memorable performances in popular films including Hungama, Chup Chup Ke, Phir Hera Pheri, Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, Partner, and the Bhool Bhulaiyaa series. The latest verdict marks a significant development in the prolonged financial dispute.
