DUBAI: Pakistan’s Olympic javelin throw champion Arshad Nadeem has bagged another major global honour.

He was awarded the Global Breakthrough Athlete award at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Sports Awards during the World Sports Summit held in Dubai.

Arshad Nadeem was given the award for his outstanding and record-breaking performance at the Paris Olympics, where he won the gold medal with a historic throw of 92.97 meters.

With this feat, he not only set an Olympic but also a world record, which was previously held by Norway’s Andreas Thorkildsen for the past 16 years. This achievement also proved to be Pakistan’s first Olympic gold medal in javelin throw.

Speaking after receiving the award, Arshad Nadeem said that this honour is a source of pride for him and Pakistan. He said that this global recognition will encourage young athletes and further promote javelin throw in the country.

It should be noted that the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Sports Award was launched in 2008, with the aim of appreciating outstanding sports achievements and services around the world.

Arshad Nadeem was the only Pakistani athlete to represent Pakistan in this year’s summit, while prominent figures from the global sports industry attended the ceremony.
