ISLAMABAD: In a moment of great national pride, Olympic gold medallist and javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem has been named the Asian Athlete of the Year by the Asian Athletics Federation.
The prestigious award was officially announced during the federation’s recent high-level meeting in South Korea and marks a significant milestone in the career of a man who is rewriting Pakistan’s athletic history.
Arshad Nadeem, who has become a household name in the country for his world-class throws and resilient spirit, now joins an exclusive list of athletes who have been recognised across Asia for their excellence. His journey from the dusty training grounds of Mian Channu to the global podium has been nothing short of impressive.
This is the first time a Pakistani athlete has received such recognition at the continental level, extending Arshad’s impact beyond just medals and rankings. His performances over the past few years have taken him to a height rarely seen in Pakistan’s athletics circles.
The award ceremony was attended by several prominent figures in South Asian athletics, including Major General (retd) Muhammad Akram Sahi, Chairman South Asian Athletics. Also present on the occasion were Athletics Federation of Pakistan President Brigadier (retd) Wajahat Hussain, Secretary Col (retd) Shahjahan and senior official Salman Iqbal Butt, who praised Arshad’s consistency, discipline and international stature.
As Arshad Nadeem prepares for upcoming international competitions, including the next Olympics, this latest accolade adds further momentum to what has already been an illustrious career. And it is a reminder to Pakistan that world-class talent can emerge and thrive despite all odds.
