DHAKA: Days after senior Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan was named as an accused in the alleged murder of Garment Factory Worker Rubel, lawyers representing Rafiqul Islam wrote to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) asking all of Shakib’s actions. The style has requested an immediate suspension from cricket.
As per the details, former Bangladesh national team captain Shakib is among the 147 people accused by Rubel’s father Rafiq. Shakib was also a former legislator in the Awami League government headed by Sheikh Hasina.
Currently in Pakistan for a Test series, Shakib played the first Test in Rawalpindi, where Bangladesh, led by Najam Hussain Shanto, defeated Pakistan by 10 wickets under Shan Masood. Shakib took four wickets and scored 15 runs in the match.
Shakib’s future in cricket is expected to be decided after the ongoing Test against Pakistan, as confirmed by BCB president Farooq Ahmed.
On August 7, in connection with Rubel’s murder, Rafiq’s lawyer, Mohammad Rafinur Rehman, represented by Shazab Mehmood Alam, sent a legal notice to the BCB via email and registered post. The notice cited ICC rules, which state that a player named in a criminal case cannot participate in national team activities.
The notice also requested that BCB recall Shakib to assist in the investigation into the murder and inform the ICC about the situation.
The BCB chief admitted that although he has not received the notice yet, he will make a decision before the second Test against Pakistan in Rawalpindi on August 30.
“A case has been registered against Shakib, we have not received any legal notice yet. An FIR (First Information Report) has been filed, and it will be investigated. After that, the case will be one or the other. will proceed in the direction”. Farooq said this after a meeting with board directors at Sher Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
