ISLAMABAD: The federal capital is getting ready to welcome Pakistan’s largest cricket stadium, prompted by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi’s instructing the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to prepare a design for the facility.

Naqvi, who is also the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), recently met with CDA officials and instructed them to finalize the design of the proposed cricket stadium in Islamabad as soon as possible.

The CDA is likely to provide land for the construction of the stadium located in D-12 near Margalla Hills foothills in Islamabad, and reports say it will be Pakistan’s largest stadium with 50,000-plus seats.

This project has been in the making for some time, and several meetings have been held between CDA and PCB since last year to discuss the building of the cricket stadium.

It was decided that the PCB would construct the stadium while the CDA assigned 280 kanals of land for it. The new stadium will augment the cricketing infrastructure of Pakistan and is expected to provide world-class facilities for players as well as fans.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif would on Saturday inaugurate the refurbished Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, recently updated in a record time of 117 days under the aegis of PCB Chair Mohsin Naqvi, as a modern cricket venue.

The stadium will now boast enhanced LED lighting, two new ultra-modern screen displays, and imported seating for each enclosure-all in all blending for an unmatchable viewing experience for fans alike. The historic function is going to be lingerie, with leading singers Ali Zafar, Arif Lohar, and Aima Baig performing with impressive drumming and fireworks display.
