LAHORE: Former New Zealand cricket player and current coach of Islamabad United, Mike Hesson, is expected to take over as the new head coach of the Pakistan national cricket team. According to media reports.

The Pakistan Cricket Board is set to announce the decision in the coming week, according to media reports.

Mike Hesson has vast experience in coaching, having coached New Zealand from 2012 to 2018, guiding them to the 2015 World Cup final.  He also served as a coach for  Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Currently, the 50-year-old is the head coach of Islamabad United in the Pakistan Super League (PSL 2025). His knowledge of Pakistani cricket and tactical aptitude make him an excellent choice, according to reports.

The PCB’s hunt increased when Aqib Javed’s term ended after a dismal Champions Trophy group stage streak. While Saqlain Mushtaq was considered, Hesson’s name has garnered popularity due to his established track record and previous interest from the PCB in 2019 and 2024.
